Report: Kansas City Chiefs showing interest in free-agent WR amid Rashee Rice uncertainty
Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly set to visit with a veteran wide receiver on Thursday. The visit comes days after news surfaced about a police investigation involving current Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Rice admitted to being the driver in a high-speed racing crash in late March. Rice is facing eight felony charges stemming from the crash that injured four people. Around the draft, reports came out the Chiefs expected Rice could be suspended for part of the upcoming regular season.

However, Rice was still participating with the team during their first phase of OTAs, which started last month. With Rice facing eight felony charges, the Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round to pair with Marquise Brown for the 2024 season.

Dallas police are investigating Rashee Rice

On Tuesday, reports surfaced Rice was being investigated for another incident. As previously discussed on GH, Dallas Police are investigating Rice for an alleged incident that occurred on Monday:

Per WFAA, Dallas police are investigating Rice for an incident that allegedly occurred at a nightclub:

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is under investigation for allegedly hitting a photographer at a club in Dallas early Monday, police sources say.

Dallas police sources say officers are interviewing witnesses about the incident that allegedly happened Monday at 609 N. Harwood Street, which is the address of Lit Kitchen.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to visit with Zay Jones

With Rice’s future on the team and in the league uncertain, the Chiefs are exploring adding depth to the wide receiver room. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, Zay Jones is set to visit with the Chiefs on Thursday. This week, he’s met with the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and Dallas Cowboys.

Jones has played for two Chiefs’ rivals

As previously discussed on GH, Jones has previous experience with the Buffalo Bills and Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders:

The Bills selected Jones in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He stayed with the Bills until he was traded to the Oakland Raiders in October 2019. In March 2022, he signed a three-year deal with the Jaguars.

Jones has recorded 281 receptions for 2,981 yards and 18 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career.

Jones had plenty of suitors this week. The Chiefs might have to pay a high price for his services, but they know they need to add depth at wide receiver if their best pass catcher from last season will likely miss much, if not all, of the upcoming season.
