Bills HC Sean McDermott calls out Josh Allen mistake

Josh Allen committed yet another big mistake before the end of a half and Sean McDermott did not hold back when discussing it.

The Buffalo Bills were trailing the Miami Dolphins 14-7 just before halftime of their Week 18 game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Sunday night. The Bills were out of timeouts facing a first-and-10 from the Miami 11 with 11 seconds remaining.

Rather than make the safe play and just kick a field goal, Buffalo decided to see if they could squeeze in a touchdown before the half. They snapped the ball to Allen, who was looking for a receiver while under pressure. He found Ty Johnson open over the middle and threw a pass to his running back, who was immediately tackled and stopped a yard short of the end zone.

The tackle in-bounds caused time to expire before Buffalo could run another play.

McDermott was interviewed by NBC’s Melissa Stark coming off the field and the coach couldn’t hide his disappointment.

“We can’t be throwing it in the field of play; it’s got to be thrown in the end zone,” McDermott said of Allen’s final play before halftime. “We just gotta be smart, take what they’re giving us. [Allen] was doing that early. Got a little bit too aggressive at times in the red zone.”

This sort of issue is very familiar for McDermott and Bills fans. Allen made a similar mistake last season in a loss to the Dolphins.

Allen makes some great plays but can be frustrating due to his mistakes in situations like that.
