For the second time in the same week, Penn State football has dipped into Alabama while recruiting. It’s a state where the Nittany Lions have not had a lot of activity over the past several seasons. But with former Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban retired there appears to be more incentive to recruit down there. Alvin Henderson is the lone commit from Alabama in the 2025 recruiting class. But that could change as Penn State has offered defensive back Andrew Purcell a scholarship.
Andrew Purcell is a three-star defensive back prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. A native of Enterprise, Alabama Purcell has only been seriously recruited for a few months. Most data from his recruiting profile on 247Sports starts in February 2024. According to the On3 Industry Ranking Purcell is the 23rd prospect in Alabama in the 2025 cycle.
It appears that Ole Miss is leading the charge for Purcell at the moment according to On3. On Friday, he shared on social media that the Penn State football team has officially offered him a scholarship. This offer comes just one day after his high school teammate Eric Winters was also offered by the Nittany Lions.

Eric Winters is also from Enterprise, AL. He is listed as a four-star safety prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Winters currently is listed as the No. 6 player in AL, the No. 9 safety in the 2025 recruiting class, and the 79th overall player in the country.
Penn State has now secured a commitment from running back Alvin Henderson from Elba, AL. Now, the Nittany Lions have dipped back into the Heart of Dixie to recruit multiple defensive backs. At this time the Nittany Lions hold one defensive back commitment in the 2025 cycle from Xxavier Thomas.
